The Chantries

We were lucky to be living in Guildford during the first lockdown, with a great variety of parks and beautiful nature spots on our doorstep. Walking every day did not get boring.

This random shot from The Chantries, facing Pewley Down, was taken just after they’d made a large clearing at one edge of the wood.

Optically this isn’t very refined but I like the composition; it leads me to look where the person in the photo is looking, through the trees to the rolling hills behind. The height of the trees in relation to her gets across the scale of the scene, and the clearing means there’s good light in the foreground and a sense of something missing.
